October 27, 2017 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Chicago Stars FC News Release
CHICAGO - Four Red Stars players will compete in Australia's W-League during the National Women's Soccer League offseason.
Arin Gilliland will rejoin Newcastle Jets as Danielle Colaprico and Katie Naughton rejoin Adelaide United. Alyssa Mautz will join Chicago teammates in Adelaide, switching from her 2016-17 team Perth Glory.
Gilliland appeared for the first time on loan during the 2016-17 season for the Jets with Chicago teammate, Jen Hoy. She made nine starts for the club, totaling 799 minutes. Netting the second-most goals on the team with four, Gilliland helped the Jets to a 4-5-3 record (15 points), and finished the season just out of playoff contention in fifth place.
Last year, Colaprico and Naughton went on loan for the first time in their career to Adelaide. Both the midfielder and defender, who co-captained the Australian side, played all 1080 minutes in the 12 matches for the club.
Colaprico tallied two goals and provided a mainstay in the central midfield. Naughton earned one assist to Red Stars teammate Sofia Huerta in a 5-2 victory against Sydney FC, while anchoring the defensive line. Adelaide finished the regular season in sixth place with a 3-4-5 record.
After competing with Perth Glory in the 2016-17 W-League season, Mautz joins Adelaide for her second stint in Australia. The midfielder played every minute of Perth's 14 matches, earning one assist to help the team to a 7-3-2 record in the regular season. Perth finished in second place, making the post season. The team lost in the Grand Final against Melbourne City FC, 0-2.
All four players will return to Chicago before the start of the 2018 NWSL season.
