Chicago Fire Ready To Battle For A 2009 MLS Cup Playoff Spot Tonight

CHICAGO, IL (Oct. 22, 2009) - The Chicago Fire will face Chivas USA tonight at TOYOTA PARK (7 p.m., ESPN2/Deportes) in their 2009 regular season finale with playoff implications. With a win or tie tonight, the Fire will not only earn their 11th playoff berth in 12 seasons of play, but also become the only major league Chicago team to make the playoffs this fall.

The Fire have faced Chivas USA three times in 2009 include a preseason exhibition, a SuperLiga 2009 group play match, and a 2009 MLS regular season match up in May at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The Fire won all three matches against Chivas USA, and will look to continue that winning streak tonight.

The Chicago Fire have never lost a regular season finale at home with a record of 3-0-1.

The Fire will also induct former Fire midfielder Chris Armas into the prestigious "Ring of Fire" Hall of Fame tonight. The induction will take place during a halftime ceremony of the Fire's game against Chivas USA. Armas joins current "Ring of Fire" members: former Fire captain Peter Nowak, former Fire player and current Fire technical director Frank Klopas, former Fire defender Lubos Kubik, the Fire's first General Manager Peter Wilt, and former Fire head coach and current U.S. Men's National team head coach Bob Bradley.

In attendance for the induction will be current "Ring of Fire" members: Chicago Fire technical director Frank Klopas, U.S. Men's National Team head coach Bob Bradley, Philadelphia Union head coach Peter Nowak, and Milwaukee Wave President/CEO Peter Wilt.
