Cincinnati Commandos News Release

At 7-0, Cincinnati's magic number to clinch the No. 1 seed in the CIFL playoffs is down to three with three games to play. Any combination of three wins from Cincinnati or two losses from the second-place Wisconsin Wolfpack (5-1) would secure the top seed for the Commandos and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Last week: The Commandos went into Marion and beat the Mayhem 38-20, improving their record to 7-0. Cincinnati QB Ben Mauk threw touchdown passes to four different receivers (WRs Brandon Boehm, WR Robert Redd, RB Greg Moore, WR Jesse Wendt) and rushed for another score. The Commandos defense was solid, forcing two Marion turnovers and two sacks, and was led by DE James Frazier who recorded a game-high 6.5 tackles.

The Last Time: The Commandos traveled to Illinois on May 1st and defeated the Chicago Cardinals 62-22, improving their record to 6-0 and becoming the first team to clinch a spot in the CIFL playoffs. For the second-consecutive game, Mauk threw seven touchdown passes, two apiece to WRs Dominick Goodman and Redd. The Commandos defense forced eight Cardinals turnovers, including pick-sixes from DBs Chris Respress and EJ Underwood.

Closing in: With 23 team sacks through seven games, the Commandos are on pace to finish the regular season with 32. The CIFL record for most sacks by a team in a season is 26, set by the Port Huron Pirates in '06 and '07 ... Another CIFL record the Commandos are threatening to break is team interceptions. They have 20 picks through seven games, which puts them on pace to finish the regular season with 28. The '06 Rochester Raiders and the '08 Rock River Raptors own the record for most team interceptions in one season with 28.

Supporting the Troops: In recognition of Armed Forces Day, Saturday's game has been designated Military Appreciation Night. All military personnel can purchase up to two tickets at half price in advance of gameday with a military ID. Gameday purchases are eligible for a $2 discount on tickets with either a military or student ID. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the Cincinnati Gardens box office.
