Charlotte Sting to celebrate 10th anniversary with 10 Days of Caring

To celebrate their 10th anniversary and thank the city of Charlotte for its support, the Charlotte Sting will embark on a 10-day community outreach effort beginning Wednesday, May 10. As part of the 10 Days of Caring, the Sting will host an event in the Charlotte community daily until their season opener on Saturday, May 20, at Charlotte Bobcats Arena against Chicago at 6 p.m.
The 10 Days of Caring tips off with a Be Smart Be Fit Be Yourself Rally on Wednesday, May 10, at First Ward Elementary School (715 N. Caldwell, Charlotte, NC) at 2:00 p.m. The entire Sting team will join 100 fifth grade students to participate in obstacle courses, arts and crafts and educational stations designed to teach kids the importance of healthy lifestyles, good nutrition and positive self esteem.
"Throughout their 10-year history the Sting have taken great pride in their efforts to make a difference in the Charlotte community," Senior Vice President of Community Relations LaRita Barber said. "We believe these 10 Days of Caring is a great way for the Sting to continue that tradition as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary this season."
Other events during the 10 Days of Caring include a landscape improvement project on Wednesday, May 17, at Park Road Elementary (3701 Haven Dr, Charlotte, NC). Andrea Stinson, Kelly Mazzante, Ayana Walker, LaToya Bond, and Monique Currie will join students to plant flowers throughout the campus.
On Thursday, May 18, Monique Currie, Helen Darling, Caity Matter, Andrea Stinson and Sting mascot Buggsy will host a Reading Timeout at the Simmons YMCA. The players will take turns reading a story and then participate in question and answer session with the children. They will also share the importance of reading and literacy.
In addition, the Sting will participate in several class parties at local elementary schools as well as hospital visits and the AAU Girls Basketball Tournament. The Sting organization will also make two special deliveries, one on Mother's Day to the Salvation Army Women's and Children's Shelter and the second on May 15 to recognize the efforts of local law enforcement on National Police Day.
The Charlotte Sting's 10th anniversary season begins on Saturday, May 20, at Charlotte Bobcats Arena as they host the Chicago Sky at 6 p.m. Season, group, flex and single-game tickets are available now.
