Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting announced today that they have signed 6'7 center Kara Wolters. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I am excited to add Kara Wolters to our roster because she provides another inside force," said General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey. "Her size, shot-blocking ability and low post presence will help strengthen our inside game and overall depth of the team."
Wolters, 28, has spent four seasons in the WNBA and owns a .508 (223-439) career field goal percentage and has averaged 6.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 88 games with Houston, Indiana and Sacramento.
A gold medal winner with the USA Basketball Team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Wolters also owns professional basketball experience with the New England Blizzard of the now-defunct American Basketball League (ABL).
A 1997 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Wolters helped her team to a 35-0 record and an NCAA Championship in 1995. She was named the AP Player of the Year, Big East Player of the Year and a Kodak All-America selection as a senior. She concluded her collegiate career as UConn's all-time leading rebounder (1286) and shot blocker (396).
The Charlotte Sting will open their eighth season of WNBA action on Friday, May 21st at the Charlotte Coliseum as they host the four-time WNBA champion Houston Comets. Season Ticket Plans begin at $102. If you can't make all 17 home games, check out our eight-game Weekend Plan for just $88 or $144 or ask about our Flex Packages and Group Tickets.
