Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting welcomed back a familiar face today by hiring Cheryl Reeve as an assistant coach. Reeve joins Fred Williams on head coach Trudi Lacey's staff after spending one season with the now-defunct Cleveland Rockers.
"We are excited to have Cheryl back with the Charlotte Sting," said Lacey. "With her WNBA experience and overall knowledge of the game, she will be a valuable asset to us this season and for many years to come."
Reeve's return to Charlotte reunites her with Lacey, both of whom served as assistant coaches on Anne Donovan's staff during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Reeve will also be reacquainted with several players still on the Sting roster who competed on the 2001 Eastern Conference Championship Team.
Prior to her three seasons in the WNBA, Reeve served as head coach of the Indiana State Sycamores from 1995-99. She improved the team's record each season and led the team to its first postseason berth in 20 years following the 1998-99 campaign. Reeve also spent five seasons as an assistant coach at The George Washington University. The Colonials posted five 20-win seasons, captured thee Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, and appeared in four NCAA Tournaments during Reeve's stint at GW.
As a player at LaSalle, Reeve led the nationally ranked Explorer team to a 25-5 record in 1987-88. She was named All-Metro Atlantic Conference and was an All Big 5 selection as a senior. Reeve holds the school record for most games started (110) and ranks fourth on LaSalle's career assist leader board (420).
Reeve excelled athletically and academically at LaSalle, graduating with a degree in computer science/management information systems. A Rhodes Scholar nominee, Reeve received both a MAAC Scholar-Athlete Post Graduate Award and a NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship in 1988. She went on to earn her master's degree in business administration from her alma mater while also serving two years as an assistant coach for the Explorers.
The Charlotte Sting begin their eighth season of WNBA competition in the spring of 2004 at the Charlotte Coliseum. For more information, visit the Sting online at www.charlottesting.com.
