
Charlotte Sting Assistant Coach Fred Williams Resigns

The Charlotte Sting announced today that assistant coach Fred Williams has resigned for personal reasons. Per team policy, further details were not disclosed.
"We appreciate Fred's time and commitment to our organization," said Sting General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey. "We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
Williams, a 20-year coaching veteran, had been an assistant with the Sting since March 26, 2003. He also spent four seasons with the WNBA's Utah Starzz, where he compiled a 36-37 record in two years as head coach. Williams also served as a scout for the Utah Jazz.
Prior to his work in Utah, Williams served as the women's head coach at the University of Southern California from 1995-1997. He guided the 1996-97 squad to a 20-9 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the second round. Williams also spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach at USC, including two as associate head coach under Cheryl Miller's tenure.
