February 5, 2004 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release

The Charlotte Sting acquired the third overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft from the Indiana Fever in exchange for Kelly Miller and the ninth pick, it was announced today by general manager and head coach Trudi Lacey. Charlotte will also receive Indiana's second round selection (18th overall). Charlotte now holds the 3rd, 18th, 22nd and 35th picks in the three-round draft, which will be held in mid-April.

"In order to put ourselves in a position to obtain a marquee player, we had to give up a good player in Kelly Miller," said Lacey. "Moving up to the third selection is an exciting move for our entire organization, as this year's draft will be the strongest and deepest the WNBA has ever seen. There are several top-notch players available in the draft who could have an immediate impact on our team."

Miller, a 5'10 guard from the University of Georgia, was selected by the Sting as the second overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft. In three seasons with the Sting, she averaged 5.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 92 games. Miller has also ranked among league leaders in three-point shooting, ranking first in 2002 (.471, 24-51) and second in 2003 (.423, 22-52).

"Kelly was a very good player coming out of college and she possesses the skills to be a successful player in our league," said Lacey. "I have enjoyed working with Kelly and appreciate her contributions to our team. We wish her nothing but the best as she continues her career with the Indiana Fever."

The Charlotte Sting will open their eighth season of WNBA action on Friday, May 21st at the Charlotte Coliseum as they host the four-time WNBA champion Houston Comets.
