Charlotte Speed News Release

Charlotte, NC, September 25, 2012--- The Charlotte Speed has signed former AFL player and Belmont, NC native Cameron McGlenn. He comes to The Speed after having two incredible years in the AFL on the Iowa Barnstormers. During his time in the AFL, he had 214 tackles and 15 interceptions. During the 2011 season McGlenn set a Barnstormers season record with 9 interceptions.

"Cameron was a must have guy to add to our defensive side of the ball, and I truly believe that he has all of the tools to become a big time player on Sundays in the near future. His decision to forgo playing in the Arena Football League this season and to come play for Coach Buckner and the Charlotte Speed speaks volumes to what kind of team we are building here in Charlotte," stated Mo Collins, General Manager of the Charlotte Speed.

McGlenn played college ball at Elon. During his 2008 season at Elon, McGlenn recorded 64 tackles, broke up 3 passes and forced a fumble. McGlenn's 2007 season wasn't too shabby either, he was named team's Most Outstanding Defensive Back; he had 60 total tackles, tallied 5.5 tackles for a loss, including one sack.

McGlenn was a high school standout for South Point High in Belmont, NC. While in high school, McGlenn helped South Point claim a 2003 state title and also earn playoff berths in 2004 and 2005. He was named team MVP in 2005 and also received his squad's sportsmanship award a season earlier. McGlenn was a two-time all-conference selection and he participated in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game
