Charlotte Hounds Select Local Collegiate Players in MLL Draft

Major League Lacrosse last week held its 2015 Collegiate Draft, and with the third overall pick the Hounds selected Duke midfielder Will Haus . "The entire staff is excited to be adding a top tier talent with a championship pedigree," said Head Coach Mike Cerino . "Haus will be a tremendous addition to our young roster." In three seasons as a Blue Devil, the midfielder has recorded 21 goals, 11 assists, 129 groundballs and caused 20 turnovers. He is a two-time USILA honorable mention All-American and was named to the 2014 NCAA All-Tournament Team.
Prior to the start of the Draft's second round, the Hounds traded their 14th and 16th overall picks to the Chesapeake Bayhawks in order to move up to the 9th overall spot. With that pick, the Hounds selected left-handed attack Joey Sankey from the University of North Carolina. "We got aggressive to ensure we got Sankey," said General Manager Wade Leaphart . "Lefty attack has been a sore spot for us and he's tenacious." In three seasons as a Tar Heel, Sankey has tallied 91 goals and 66 assists, while adding 101 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers. He was a 2013 and 2014 third team All-American and currently ranks 15th nationally in active career points per game (3.20).
The Hounds' 2015 training camp will run from March 27-29. Sunday's session at Providence Day School will be open to the public from 10:00am-2:00pm.
