Charlotte Eagles News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles and Richmond Kickers face each other this weekend in back-to back-games as the playoff race in USL PRO's American Division heats up. The Eagles travel to Richmond for the USL PRO Game of the Week on FOX Soccer Friday night at 8 p.m. Game two is part of a USL PRO/W-League doubleheader at Charlotte Christian Stadium Saturday night, with the game kicking off at 8 p.m. With only six points separating them in the American division, both teams have lots to play for.

Charlotte-Richmond is one of the longest standing rivalries in USL, with both originating in 1993 and both being led by USL Hall of Fame coaches. Both teams also have six appearances in the finals, with each winning two USL championships.

In the inaugural season of USL PRO these teams could not have started any more differently. Richmond went undefeated in its first seven games of the season while it took Charlotte almost that long to find its first win.

Charlotte has turned things around and the Eagles find themselves in the playoff hunt. With only six points separating teams this weekend the Eagles have an opportunity to make significant strides in the American Division.

Charlotte has a tough road ahead. With a 6-1-1 record at home, Richmond has proven it is not easy to visit City Stadium and come away with three points. Despite what happens in Richmond, both teams will travel back to Charlotte for Saturday night at Charlotte Christian Stadium.

Charlotte has been doing well at home, winning its past four games in Charlotte. The game Saturday night is part of a doubleheader with the Lady Eagles kicking off at 5:30 p.m. against Fredericksburg.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles will honor all of the 2011 host families that have hosted a player for the season. The Eagles would not be able to do what they do if it was not for all the host families that partner with the organization.
