Charlotte Eagles to host Major League Soccer's CD Chivas USA in US Open Cup Round Three

(Davidson, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles professional soccer team will host Major League Soccer's Club Deportivo Chivas USA in round three of the Lamar hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament.
Charlotte will host the match at Davidson College's Alumni Stadium on July 13th at 7:30 pm. A sell out crowd is expected for the match.
Club Deportivo Chivas USA is the Major League Soccer (MLS) counterpart to the Guadalajara-based Mexican first division team "Club Deportivo Guadalajara" or "CD Guadalajara". Ramon Ramirez is arguably the teams best known player. The legendary midfielder and Mexico's third most-capped player with 121 international appearances has been an icon to Chivas fans since his debut with the Red-and-White in 1994. CD Chivas USA's match against Charlotte will be their first of the US Open Cup tournament. The team has struggled through the MLS season thus far and will be out to prove themselves in the Open Cup tournament.
The Charlotte Eagles entered the US Open Cup tournament in the second round, defeating the El Paso Patriots 4-1 in El Paso to advance to round three. Charlotte is entering the third round for the first time in its history in the US Open Cup. The Eagles qualified for the Open Cup tournament in 1998 and 2004, but were eliminated in the second round both years. Charlotte has faced MLS competition in the past, playing the Colorado Rapids and the Miami Fusion in exhibition matches. This time there is something at stake, as the winner of the July 13th match at Davidson will advance to round four of the tournament and host the MLS L.A. Galaxy.

The July 13th Open Cup match between the Charlotte Eagles and CD Chivas USA is expected to sell out fast with the limited stadium capacity. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Charlotte Eagles website: www.CharlotteEagles.com or by calling the Eagles Ticket Line at (704) 841-8644 x 32. Tickets can be purchased prior to July 12th, 5:00 pm at the advance purchase price of $10.00. If tickets are still available they will be sold at the general admission price of $12.00. There is no student discount, but children 3 years of age and under are free.
What is the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup?
The U.S. Open Cup, which is recognized as the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship. Dating back to 1914, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual US Open Cup is a 90-year-old single-elimination tournament.
