Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles announced today the signing of Miguel Ferrer (pending USL and US soccer approval). The young player comes to the Charlotte Eagles after a very successful career at UNC-Pembroke. A native of Cuba, Miguel has spent most of his life in Miami, FL until moving up to Charlotte to attend UNC Pembroke.
The announcement comes as the Eagles prepare for their first pre-season game against MLS' New England Revolution on March 13, 2010.
Miguel began his college career in 2005 with UNC Pembroke. He quickly became a fixture as a midfielder. As a junior, Miguel received All-Conference, All-Region and All-American honors confirming his ability on the field. He was awarded All-Conference and All-Region honors as a senior.
Miguel was one of the few players to be invited to the Eagles winter combine. He made quite an impression on the Eagles' coaching staff. Head Coach Mark Steffens remarks, "We are very excited about signing Miguel Ferrer. He was one of the top players at our 'invitation only' tryouts. His technical ability stood out - great first touch, good passer, and a great dribbler. I believe he will be a very strong professional soccer player as well as a great ambassador for the Charlotte Eagles."
Not only has Miguel experienced success on the soccer field but off the field as well. Miguel is the first in his family to attend college. He is very thankful for all the opportunities that have opened up through the game of soccer.
Miguel and the rest of the Charlotte Eagles will prepare to take on the New England Revolution for a pre-season match on Saturday, March 13, 2010. This pre-season match will kick off the Eagles pre-season training.
