Charlotte Eagles Re-Sign Veterans Swinehart and Johnson
April 6, 2006 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release
Charlotte Eagles Professional Soccer announced today the re-signing of veteran forward Dustin Swinehart, and defender Ben Johnson. Both Swinehart and Johnson have been members of both the Eagles' championship teams in 2000 and 2005.
Swinehart will be playing his 9th year with the Defending USL-2 Champions, and will continue to stand by the side of 2-time reigning MVP Jacob Coggins on offense. Swinehart, a multiple 1st Team All-League selection, also joined Coggins in California last spring to train with the U.S. National Team under Bruce Arena's instruction. Although his career has been full of highlights, Swinehart will be going after a remarkable milestone this season. Currently, with 97 career goals he only needs 3 more to reach the magic 100.
Johnson, in his 8th year with Charlotte, will be part of another experienced back line that returns all of its starters from 2005. The speedy winger known for his relentless work ethic will look to help his good friend and teammate Swinehart defend the title as the Eagles open their season at home against the Cincinnati Kings at Waddell Stadium on April 21st.
The Charlotte Eagles will celebrate their USL-2 Championship on Opening Night with a special ceremony at 7:00 pm dedicated to the success of all Charlotte Area sports. That will be followed by the Championship Rings Presentation and kick-off at 7:30pm with Mike Rucker of the Carolina Panthers kicking out the first ball. Tickets can be purchased online at www.CharlotteEagles.com or by calling the ticket line at 704-841-8644 ext.32.
