Charlotte Eagles News Release

The Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club is proud to announce that the Eagles will host Major League Soccer's New England Revolution on March 13, 2010, at UNC Charlotte Stadium at 6:00 PM EST.

The game will be part of the Revolution's pre-season tour in North Carolina.

Operated by the Kraft Family, which also owns the New England Patriots, the Revolution is based at the state-of-the-art Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., where the club plays its home games and where its executive offices are located.

The Revolution is the Northeast region's premier professional soccer team. A founding member of the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer in 1996, the Revolution has played for the MLS Cup four times in the last decade - including three straight from 2005 to 2007 - while advancing to the Eastern Conference Championship game in six straight years (2002-07), an MLS record. The Revolution also won the 2007 U.S. Open Cup and the 2008 SuperLiga title.

New England currently holds MLS' longest active playoff streak, advancing to the postseason in each of the last eight years. Led by former Liverpool legend Steve Nicol, the Revolution has posted the league's second-highest winning percentage since 2002 (among teams playing more than one season), the same year when Nicol took the helm of the club. Among teams that have played all eight seasons, the team has the highest winning percentage (.537).

The Revolution roster features a mix of former top U.S. collegiate stars, as well as up-and-coming international talent, highlighted by the 2005 MLS Most Valuable Player and scoring champion, forward Taylor Twellman, and 2009 MLS MVP finalist Shalrie Joseph.

This match up falls at the beginning of the Eagles' pre-season which will provide a great catalyst for the 2010 season. Eagles coach Mark Steffens remarks "

The entire Charlotte Eagles organization is excited to play a high level team like the New England Revolution. They have been in the MLS Championship game 3 of the last 5 years. They always field a very strong team. I know our players will be extremely motivated to play against the likes of Taylor Twellman, Shalrie Joseph, Preston Burpo, and a host of other great players. This game will be a great way to prepare for our USL season which will be the strongest it has ever been. I look forward to a very entertaining game."

With a good core of 2009 players returning, the Charlotte Eagles are poised to be a force in this year's USL-2 season.

The addition of Charleston to Division 2 will make the competition much more steep.

The Eagles will use this pre-season match as a launching point to prepare 2010 campaign.

UNC Charlotte Stadium will be the venue for the March match.

The Eagles have a strong history playing at UNC Charlotte.

The facility provides the ideal setting for a high energy, large crowd without losing the sense of being near the action.

The Eagles look forward to providing a great soccer experience on March 13 at 6:00 PM.
