Charlotte County Redfish News Release
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL - Charlotte County Professional Baseball, southwest Florida's newest independent minor league baseball team, has tabbed Omar Roque as the club's general manager. The team made this announcement at a press conference Wednesday; 11 months before they are set to play at the Charlotte County Sports Park as a member of the South Coast League of Professional Baseball.
Roque, 27, comes to Charlotte County after two seasons as Assistant General Manager of the Greeneville (TN) Astros of the Appalachian League. During his time in Greeneville (affiliated-Rookie), Omar helped establish a new market and a brand new $10 million facility. The team led the league in attendance during both of his seasons. Omar's previous experience also includes a season in Bradenton, FL with the Pittsburgh Pirates Florida Operations Department. In October of 2005, Roque accepted a position in the league office of the South Coast League where he served as Director of Public and Media Relations prior to today's appointment as the new Charlotte County G.M.
"We are thrilled to name Omar the General Manager of the new Charlotte County ball club. The community will be proud to have an individual like Omar leading their team into the inaugural season," said South Coast League Chief Executive Officer Jamie Toole. "Having worked with Omar over the last several years, I know that his leadership, experience, and commitment to the community will serve him well in this new role. I cannot think of anybody better suited to oversee the operation."
"I look forward to becoming an integral part of the community," said Roque. "This is a tremendous honor and opportunity for me to be involved at the ground level, and to join a great community which has shown such incredible enthusiasm for professional baseball's return. We look forward to providing Charlotte County with affordable, family fun."
Charlotte County will be joined by five other charter franchises to begin South Coast League play in the spring of 2007.
