Charleston Battery Sets Pre-Season Schedule

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery pre-season camp begins early next week as the 2007 squad arrives in Charleston in preparation for the Carolina Challenge Cup and then the USL First Division season. Coach Mike Anhaeuser has just under two weeks to work with the team before the start of the Carolina Challenge Cup on March 24; the Battery's tournament opener is versus Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls at 8:15 PM.

The Battery players will undergo a series of fitness tests and medicals before training begins in earnest. The team medicals take place on March 13 and then on March 14 the team will perform the 'Beep Test' an anaerobic fitness test. Training proper begins on March 15 at the Charleston Battery Practice Facility, Daniel Island. The players will also be distance-running in the mornings; all Charleston Battery training sessions are open to the public.

Aside from the Carolina Challenge Cup matches (March 24, 28, 31) all home pre-season exhibitions are free admission.

2007 Carolina Challenge Cup

The Charleston Battery will host the fourth annual Carolina Challenge Cup March 24 - 31 at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island. This year's pre-season features the 2006 MLS Cup Champions the Houston Dynamo, MLS's New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC plus the USL First Division Charleston Battery. Tickets are on sale now priced at $15 - $25; discounts are available for series tickets (includes all 6 games) and for 2007 Charleston Battery season ticket holders.
