Published on January 20, 2015 under United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston Battery kick off their 2015 competitive campaign on Saturday, Feb. 14, with a pre-Carolina Challenge Cup scrimmage against the College of Charleston, the first of nine currently scheduled warm-ups to the USL PRO regular season.
In addition to the traditional CofC match during the team's first week of training, highlights of the non-CCC schedule include a home-and-away series with expansion Jacksonville Armada of the NASL, plus a date with the NASL's Carolina Railhawks on Saturday, Feb. 14.
As is often the case in January, the locations and kickoff times for several of the team's preseason scrimmages are yet to be determined.
BATTERY PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE
Saturday, Feb. 14: at College of Charleston. Time TBD.
Wednesday, Feb. 18: Jacksonville Armada, Blackbaud Stadium, 4 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 21: Houston Dynamo, Carolina Challenge Cup, 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 25: Orlando City SC, Carolina Challenge Cup, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 28: New York City FC, Carolina Challenge Cup, 7 p.m.

Except for Carolina Challenge Cup matches, all Battery preseason matches at Blackbaud Stadium are free admission. Many of these events are informal, with free substitution rules and no use of the stadium scoreboard. The club might run the stadium scoreboard during the home match with Jacksonville, said Battery Coach and General Manager Mike Anhaeuser.
Fans should stay tuned for updates, changes and additions. Preseason scheduling is fluid. The club update all changes to the schedule online and via its Twitter and Facebook channels. As always, fans are welcome.
Possible additions include a potential second scrimmage with CofC, ongoing talks with a couple of other college teams in the region, and the chance of picking up an away date with NPSL club Jacksonville United in conjunction with the March 8 match against the Armada.
Anhaeuser said the Battery and the Railhawks were still in talks about whether this year's preseason meeting would be held in Charleston or Cary. Last season's meeting, scheduled for Cary, was cancelled because of heavy rains.
In other free-event news for Blackbaud Stadium, the 11-on-11 scrimmages during the Battery's Open Trials on Friday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 24, will take place between 2:30 and 5 p.m. on Friday and between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
