Charlene Curtis Added To Charlotte Sting Coaching Staff

Charlene Curtis was added to the Charlotte Sting coaching staff as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season, it was announced today by general manager and head coach Trudi Lacey. Per team policy, further details were not disclosed.

"Charlene has been around women's basketball for a long time," said Lacey. "She possesses a wealth of knowledge from her many experiences with top-notch organizations such as the ACC, Big East and USA Basketball."

With 28 years of coaching experience under her belt, Curtis most recently served as head women's basketball coach at Wake Forest University for the past seven years. Immediately before accepting the post at Wake Forest, Curtis spent two years as an assistant to Geno Auriemma at the University of Connecticut. During her two years at UConn, the Huskies won two Big East titles and advanced the NCAA Final Four in 1996 and the Elite Eight in 1997.

In addition, Curtis has served as head women's basketball coach at Temple University (1990-95) and as an assistant coach at Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, Roanoke College and with USA Basketball. She also worked in a variety of roles at her alma mater, Radford University. As head coach at Radford, Curtis was named the Big South Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989. As a player at Radford, Curtis became the school's first 1000-point scorer and was inducted into the school's hall of fame as a charter member in 1995.
