Philadelphia Charge News Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 23, 2002) - Philadelphia Charge midfielder Zhao Lihong was activated off the injured list Thursday after missing the last three games with a stress reaction in her left foot.

Zhao practiced Thursday for the first time since suffering the injury on April 27 in a 2-1 win over the New York Power. Later in the day, Zhao was evaluated by team doctors and it was determined she could be taken off the injured list. She is officially listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Carolina Courage and is expected to make the trip with the team. However, it will be a game time decision as to whether or not she plays.

The Chinese national team member was injured when going in for a 50-50 ball against a Power player late in the first half in the Charge's second game of the season. Zhao remained in the game and finished the contest. She had spent four weeks in a boot while the foot was healing.

To make room on the active roster, the club transferred defender Karyn Hall to the reserve roster. Hall was signed as a reserve last week after being waived from the Charge's active roster.

In other team news, the Charge signed defender Andrea Alfiler to the reserve roster. Alfiler was added after the league increased each club's reserve roster from two to three players.

The first-place Charge travel to Carolina to take on the second-place Courage on Saturday, May 25 starting at 7 p.m. (ET). The Charge, who return home on June 1 for a 7 p.m. start against the defending Founders Cup champion San Jose Cyberrays, have blended a solid defense and a high-scoring offense to post a 4-1-0 mark for 12 points this season. Midfielder and captain Kelly Smith is leading the way with three goals and two assists for eight points.
