Eugene Chargers News Release

Eugene, OR--The Eugene Chargers, an expansion team in the International Basketball League, signed two more players for the 2006 season-6'5" guard/forward Elliott Marshall and 6'2" point guard Akin Hughes

Elliott Marshall was a 1st team all-conference player at Oregon Tech. He averaged high double figures in his junior and senior seasons after transferring from San Jose State, and was an All-American honorable mention. Marshall's other achievements include selection as a Top-40 Junior College Player and 1st team All-state and player of the year honors at Kearney Catholic High School in Kearney, NE.

"Elliott is an exciting player that can wow the crowd with Jordanesque moves. An injury his senior season probably prevented us from winning another National Championship. He also coached high school in our community as an assistant coach and was very well liked by teammates and fans of the program." said Dan Miles, Oregon Tech Head Coach.

Akin (Ah-keen) Hughes brings an array of talent to the Eugene Chargers. A native of Orlando, FL, Hughes was a high school standout, selected to play on the US Junior National team. After briefly attending Florida International University, Hughes transferred to Voorhees University in South Carolina-- where he led his team in scoring and assists as a senior with 20 and 5.5 per game, respectively. His professional resume includes Venezuela, the Albany Patroons of the Continental Basketball Association, and a brief contract with the NBA Development League.

Chargers General Manager, Tony Alvarez--"Mr. Hughes will direct the Chargers at the point guard position. He is an outstanding talent capable of getting everyone involved in the offense, or creating his own shot."

Eugene opens their season against the Salem Stampede on Friday April 7th at 7:15pm at the Morse Event Center - Northwest Christian College.
