Florida was 37-27-8 with 82 points which was good for fifth place in the Southeast Division during the regular season. The Everblades finished the year with two road wins in as many nights, including a 2-1 shootout win versus the Augusta Lynx Sunday in their last game, to qualify for the playoffs. They then beat the South Carolina Stingrays 3-2 last night in the Southeast Division Wild Card game.
Florida has now made the playoffs all four seasons the team has been in the ECHL. The Everblades finished in second place in the Southeast Division in 1998-98 and swept the Birmingham Bulls three games to none in the Southern Conference quarter finals before losing three games to none to the Mississippi Sea Wolves in the conference semi-finals. They set League records with 53 wins, 108 points and a .771 winning percentage winning the Brabham Cup Regular Season Championship in 1999-2000 but lost three games to two to the Augusta Lynx in the conference quarter finals. Florida was second in the Southeast Division last year but lost three games to two in the conference quarter finals to the Pee Dee Pride.
This will be the second trip to the post season in four years for the Grrrowl who missed the playoffs in their inaugural season, 1998-99, and last year. In 1999-2000, they finished the regular season in third place in the Southeast Division and beat the Mobile Mysticks three games to two in the Southern Conference quarter finals and the Augusta Lynx three games to one in the conference semi-finals before losing to the Louisiana IceGators four games to two in the Southern Conference Finals which featured the longest game in ECHL history. The Grrrowl beat Louisiana 3-2 in game two at 1:24 of the fourth overtime on a Martin Masa goal.
The Grrrowl are 11-12-5 all-time versus Florida including 4-2-1 this season.
