Philadelphia Charge News Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 16, 2002) - The Philadelphia Charge announced Thursday that they have signed defender Karyn Hall to the reserve roster and released defender Andrea Alfiler from the reserve roster.

Hall was placed on waivers by the Charge after the club signed first-round draft-pick Stacey Tullock to the active roster on Wednesday. Hall, a fourth-round draft choice from the University of Florida, then cleared waivers and was free to sign the reserve contract with Philadelphia.

Hall appeared in only one game (5/11 vs. Washington), playing for only nine minutes. Prior to being placed on the reserve roster, she was the lowest 2002 draft pick to make an active roster.

Alfiler was signed to the reserve roster prior to the May 11 game after the club learned that forward Rakel Karvelsson would be lost for the year due to reconstructive ACL surgery to her knee.

The Charge travel to San Diego to take on the Spirit on Sunday, May 19 starting at 8 p.m. (ET). The Charge, who return home on June 1 for a 7 p.m. start against the defending Founders Cup champion San Jose Cyberrays, have blended a solid defense and a high-scoring offense to sit in first place and post a 4-0-0 mark this season. No other team in league history has ever won four straight at any point and started a season so impressively, as the Charge have outscored their opponents 11-4 this year.

Midfielder and captain Kelly Smith is leading the way with three goals and two assists for eight points. She currently has a WUSA record seven-game point-scoring streak dating back to last season, registering four goals and four assists over that span. Including the postseason, Smith has an eight game point-scoring streak (5g, 4a).
