Sioux Falls, SD (April 14, 2015) - The Canton Charge advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals after defeating the Sioux Falls Skyforce 105-95 tonight at the Sanford Pentagon.
A highly contested first quarter saw a total of eight lead changes and six ties before the Skyforce took a 29-28 lead into the second quarter. Larry Drew II led all players with 10 points and six assists in the opening quarter. James Singleton and Joe Harris each tallied eight first quarter points for the Charge.
Sioux Falls would lead for the entirety of the second quarter during which their lead would reach as much as 10 points before settling for a 51-47 halftime lead. Scotty Hopson's 10 second quarter points gave him a game high 15 points at the break. Singleton finished the half with 10 points and 10 rebounds giving him a double-double in each game of the series.
Two Joe Harris free throws would give Canton a 57-55 lead with 8:59 left in the third quarter, their first lead since the 36.7 mark of the first quarter. The rest of the third quarter would see three ties and five lead changes before the Charge took a 73-70 lead into the final quarter.
The Charge would never trail in the final quarter on their way to a series-clinching 105-95 victory over the Skyforce. Canton will now face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the Eastern Conference Finals beginning this Thursday in Fort Wayne.
Three Charge players would score over 20 points led by 27 points from Cleveland Cavaliers' assignee Joe Harris. Alex Kirk (23 points, 11 rebounds) and James Singleton (21 points, 13 rebounds) each finished with a double-double. On the night, Canton shot 92.6% (25-27) from the free-throw line.
Sioux Falls was led by Scotty Hopson's 31 points. Khem Birch (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Larry Drew II (13 points, 11 assists) would record their 22nd and 16th double-doubles of the season, respectively.
