CFL Officials Named for 93rd Grey Cup

Vancouver, BC (November 25, 2005) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today the roster of officials who will call the 93rd Grey Cup in Vancouver on Sunday, November 27. The Grey Cup crew is a talented group that brings plenty of big-game experience to this year's title contest.

The officials for the 2005 Grey Cup are:

Referee #32 Glen Johnson

Umpire #39 Bob Reddekopp

Head Linesman #35 Don Cousens

Line Judge #52 Boris Velcic

Side Judge #42 Carey Anderson

Back Judge #70 Don Ellis

Field Judge #22 Murray Clarke

Alternate #67 Ross Saunders

Alternate #64 Dave Yule

The crew will be supported by a solid corps of off-field officiating staff, including:

The following is some background information on this year's Grey Cup arbiters:

Glen Johnson - Referee

Johnson is in his 16th season as a CFL official and the 2005 Grey Cup will be his 6th appearance in the title tilt. His other Grey Cup games were 1994 (alternate), 1995 (field judge), 2000 (field judge), 2002 (alternate) and 2003 (alternate). The Toronto, Ontario resident has called 280 games as a CFL official.

Glen and his father Gord hold the distinction of being the only father and son to have officiated Grey Cup games. Gord was an official for 16 years in the CFL and he called four Grey Cup contests - 1978 (head linesman), 1979 (head linesman), 1980 (field judge) and 1983 (back judge).

Bob Reddekopp - Umpire

Reddekopp is in his 14th year as a CFL official. The 2005 title game will be the 2nd Grey Cup of Reddekopp's career. He worked as the umpire in the 2000 Grey Cup contest between the British Columbia Lions and the Montréal Alouettes. From Calgary, AB, Reddekopp has officiated 227 CFL games.

Don Cousens - Head Linesman

Cousens will be calling his 3rd Grey Cup game. The eight-year CFL veteran from Georgetown, ON was the line judge in the 2002 and 2003 games. He has officiated 143 CFL contests. His other Grey Cups came in 2002 (line judge) and 2003 (line judge).

Boris Velcic - Line Judge

In his 8th season as a CFL arbiter, Velcic will work his 2nd Grey Cup game. He was an alternate in the 2004 Grey Cup game between the Toronto Argonauts and the British Columbia Lions in Ottawa. The Calgary resident has called 127 CFL games.

Carey Anderson - Side Judge

Anderson makes his debut as a Grey Cup official. The eight-year CFL official - who calls Langley, BC home - will work his first Grey Cup game this Sunday. He has officiated 135 CFL games.

Don Ellis - Back Judge

Ellis is a long-serving CFL official. Now in his 23rd season in the League, Ellis will be calling his 7th Grey Cup encounter. His other Grey Cups were 1986 (alternate), 1988 (line judge), 1992 (alternate), 1993 (back judge), 1994 (back judge) and 1999 (alternate). From Newmarket, ON, Ellis has worked 434 CFL games.

Murray Clarke - Field Judge

A 14-year CFL official, Clarke will officiate his 5th CFL game. His other Grey Cup appearances came in 1996 (back judge), 1998 (field judge), 1999 (field judge) and 2002 (alternate). The Victoria, BC resident has called 276 CFL games.

Ross Saunders - Alternate

An official in his 25th season, Saunders is an umpire with impressive league experience behind him. From Ottawa, ON, Saunders has called 375 CFL games and will now work his 5th Grey Cup. His other title appearances came in 1986 (line judge), 1989 (head linesman), 1991 (head linesman) and 1996 (umpire).

Dave Yule - Alternate

Yule brings the most experience to this year's Grey Cup officiating crew. In his 25th season, Yule has donned the stripes 434 times in the CFL. The Nanaimo, BC resident will work his 15th Grey Cup game this Sunday. His other Grey Cup games came in 1982 (line judge), 1983 (head linesman), 1987 (line judge), 1988 (alternate), 1989 (referee), 1990 (alternate), 1993 (referee), 1995 (referee), 1997 (referee), 1999 (alternate), 2000 (referee), 2001 (alternate), 2002 (referee) and 2003 (referee).
