Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release

Washington, PA-Chicago pitcher Michelle Gascoigne threw seven innings of scoreless ball and Brittany Cervantes hit a sacrifice-fly in the top of the fifth, leading the Bandits to a 1-0 victory over Sarah Pauly and the Pennsylvania Rebellion on Tuesday at CONSOL Energy Park.

In a primetime pitchers' duel, Gascoigne dazzled in the circle as the second-year NPF veteran carried her team to their 21st victory of the season. The former seventh overall pick by the Bandits in 2013 allowed six hits, no earned runs and tallied three strikeouts. On the other side of the circle, Pauly held the Bandits to just one run on nine hits in the contest, striking out four and surrendering just one walk and one earned run.

Chicago scored the only run allowed in the game in the top of the fifth inning when outfielder Emily Allard crossed the plate on a game-winning sacrifice-fly delivered by Cervantes.

Despite the loss, the Rebellion had plenty of scoring opportunities. In the bottom of the first, shortstop Bianca Mejia, who doubled with two outs, was headed for home on a single by designated player Courtney Liddle. But, she was unfortunately gunned down by Chicago's outfielder Allard to end the inning. Additionally, the Rebellion made noise in the bottom of the seventh with runners on the corners but were unable to score as centerfielder Samantha Garcia ended the game with a strikeout.

The Rebellion return to action on Friday, August 1st at 7:05 p.m. to battle the Akron Racers at Firestone Stadium. All the action can be heard with Nate Regotti, the official broadcaster of the Rebellion, on www.msasports.net/broadcasts. For live in-game updates follow the team on Twitter @PARebellion.
