Cerda Rejoins Smokies From Disabled List Saturday

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announced this afternoon that INF Matt Cerda has been activated from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, C Juan Apodaca has been promoted to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Both moves are immediate, with Cerda being available for today's 7:05 p.m. EST in Jackson, Tenn.

The Smokies active roster is set at 25 players.

Cerda, 21, began the 2012 campaign with the Smokies before heading to the DL on April 17. In six games with Tennessee, he is batting .211 (4-for-19) with two doubles, one triple and two RBIs. The Oceanside, Calif. native was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Apodaca, 25, was batting .207 (6-for-29) for Tennessee in 2012. The Caracas, Venezuela native was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent prior to the 2012 season.
