Jason Weidmeyer dominated the El Paso Diablos, going the distance in a 4-1 San Angelo win. Weidmeyer got his fourth win with the three-hitter, allowing just a solo home run to Diablos' C Ben Rosenthal in the fifth. Weidmeyer struck out eleven of the of the 29 batters he faced. 2B John Anderson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI from the leadoff spot to pace the Colts offensively. Trevor Marcotte picked up his second loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work.
FORT WORTH 3, SHREVEPORT 1 @ Fort Worth, Texas. Time: 2:21 ATT: 2,686 W: Matt Harrington (1-0) L: Neomar Flores (4-4) S: Juan Figueroa (5) HR: None
Fort Worth clinched the first half title, beating Shreveport 3-1 on a night when second-place Pensacola lost. The Cats and Sports were tied at one apiece after six, but Fort Worth scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead. DH John Allen was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Cats offensively. Starter Josh Neitz allowed only a run on three hits over five innings, but didn't figure in the decision. Reliever Matt Harrington pitched two perfect innings, striking out three and getting his first win of the year. Neomar flores allowed just two runs over six innings, but was saddled with the loss. Juan Figueroa struck out two in the ninth to get his fifth save.
COASTAL BEND 13, PENSACOLA 9 @ Pensacola, Fla. Time: 3:24 ATT: 1,185 W: Alex Dutka (4-0) L: Bubba Dobson (3-1) S: None HR: CB - Edwin Maldonado (4) PEN - Larry Bethea (11)RBI doubles by CF Matt Mann and DH Carlos Figueroa keyed a five-run rally in the eighth that gave Coastal Bend the come-from-behind win over Pensacola, ending the Pelicans' hopes of winning the first half. Mann finished 3-for-6, a homer shy of the cycle, and with three runs batted in. Bernard Caston led the Pels, going 4-for-6 with a double, a stolen base and two runs from the leadoff spot. Alex Dutka picked up his second win in as many days, pitching two-thirds of an inning scoreless. With the Cats' win over Shreveport, Pensacola can no longer catch Fort Worth in the first half.
JACKSON 4, EDINBURG 1 @ Edinburg, Texas. Time: 2:51 ATT: 2,525 W: Daniel Hearn (1-1) L: Kevin Hull (3-3) S: Fontella Jones (6) HR: JAX - Carlos Brackley (3) A two-run homer by RF Carlos Brackley capped a four-run rally that gave Jackson all they'd need in the seventh inning. DH Jake Dickinson and SS Jared Boyd scored on an error by 2B Anthony Angel, and Brackley's bomb did the rest of the damage. Kevin Hull picked up the loss but pitched relatively well, allowing no earned runs over seven innings and striking out ten, with six walks (including two in the seventh). Daniel Hearn picked up the win, yielding just a run on two hits over six. Fontella Jones pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
