Cedar Rapids Returns to Top Spot in Coaches Poll

Published on May 23, 2013 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA - After a two month absence, the Cedar Rapids have reclaimed the top spot in this week's IFL Coaches Poll.

Thanks to a 54-37 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard, the Titans (7-4) leapfrog the Colorado Ice to #1 in the poll. With the win, the Titans also suffered a huge setback. The league's #1 offense (54.9 points per game) lost starting QB Charles McCullum for the season with a torn ACL. Backup Colton Hansen takes the reigns of the offense for the remainder of the season. In spot duty this season, Hansen has proven to be more than capable of putting points on the board, throwing for 569 yards and 15 touchdowns, good for a 101.2 Quarterback Rating in 7 games. Next up for the Titans is a rematch with the Sioux Falls Storm. In Week 13, the Titans defended home turf with a 52-18 victory over the Storm. This time around the Storm will look to do the same at the "Storm Shelter".

Despite defeating the Tri-Cities Fever 39-35, the Colorado Ice (7-3) fall one spot to #2 this week. With the win, the Ice became the first team to clinch a playoff berth. It has not always been pretty, but the Ice continue to find ways to win in the final minutes of games. A sign of how exciting games involving the Ice have been this year, the average score of their games is 43.8 to 40.2. This weekend the Ice travel to Washington State to take on the Fever in the 3rd and final matchup between the teams in 2013.

The Nebraska Danger (7-4) jump one spot in the poll to #3 following an 82-53 victory over the Wyoming Cavalry. It was an offensive explosion for the Danger as the 82 points scored is the 2nd highest in team history. QB Jameel Sewell's favorite target was WR Kayne Farquharson, who hauled in 8 catches for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. For his performance, Farquharson was named Offense Player of the Week. Upcoming for the Danger is a rematch with the Cavalry. A win this weekend will clinch the first playoff berth in team history for the Danger.

The Sioux Falls Storm (#4, 7-4) and Chicago Slaughter (#5, 7-5) flip-flop spots in this week's poll. The Storm extended their home win streak to 30 games with a 53-38 victory over the Slaughter. The Storm rebounded from a disappointing performance the week before in Cedar Rapids. In the IFL Game of the Week, the Storm and Titans square off this weekend with the winner claiming sole possession of first place in the United Conference. The Slaughter are idle in Week 15 with a bye.

For the fourth consecutive week, spots 6-9 remain unchanged, belonging to the Green Bay Blizzard, Texas Revolution, Tri-Cities Fever, and Wyoming Cavalry. The Blizzard's (4-6) playoff hopes took a big hit after the 54-37 loss to the Titans. Idle last week, the Revolution (4-6) and Blizzard square off this week in an elimination game. The Fever's (4-7) postseason chances took a blow as well following the 39-35 loss in Colorado. The Cavalry (1-9) travel to Nebraska this week.

As the 2013 IFL season enters the home stretch, the final month will go a long way in deciding the playoff races and seeds in both the United and Intense Conference.
