CBL Announces Opening Weekend's Games
April 30, 2010 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) News Release
The Continental Basketball League opens up their inaugural season this weekend with three games on the slate.
Opening up the season will be the Georgia Gwizzlies taking on the Savannah Wildcats in a 7:00 tip at Savannah's A.E. Beach High School. Watch out for Joseph Fiegler, a 5'10 guard out of Savannah State University. Fiegler played this past season with the Premier Basketball League's Quebec Kebs and the Maryland Greenhawks where he averaged 8.3 points a game and displayed great floor presence and passing abilities. Also look out for Dominique Williams, a 6'5 forward out of Mars Hill. Williams is a dynamic player who gets to the rim and is known for his speed and leaping abilities.
On Saturday night in Leeds, AL, the Birmingham Steel play host to the Carolina Cougarz in a 7:00 tip at Leeds High School. The Steel feature six players with professional experience including ABA All-Star Antonio Griffin. Steel ballplayers have seen action in Turkey, Uruguay, London and Germany. The Cougarz roster is loaded with talent that includes former USA Select team member Eziekiel Mayes, a 6'8 forward out of Fayetteville State University.
Back in Leeds, AL for a 5:00 tip will be the Steel taking on the Wilmington Sea Dawgs in a 5:00 tip. Wilmington has had tremendous success over the years in both the ABA and the PBL. Coach Dale Kuhl has loaded his roster with seven players that return to the team from the 2009 PBL campaign, so this is a group of guys that know each other and play well together. Many say that the Sea Dawgs will be the team to beat in the CBL this season.
