With the score tied at 90-all in Albany's Tuesday night matchup against the Minot Skyrockets, the Patroons gave up a costly turnover in the final seconds, and after trading foul shots, the Patroons fell to the Skyrockets 96-92 [5.5-1.5]. Jason "J-Bird" Williams was the Patroons' top scorer with 21 points, while Dajan Smith followed behind with 20 points and nine rebounds, while new signee Ian Young came up with 14 points and 7 assists. Next up was a trip to Atlanta for a matchup with the Krunk. The Patroons completely dominated the Thursday night contest with Atlanta, defeating the Krunk 139-111 [6.5-0.5], as Ian Young recorded a triple-double with 31 pts, 10 rebs and 15 assists. Chad Timberlake, who also scored 31 points on the night, had a triple-double that included 12 rebounds and 12 assists; he also recorded eight steals. Atlanta Krunk (9-25, 70.0 QP, 2.07 AVG, 5th place, American Conference)

In the final game of a long road trip, the Atlanta Krunk returned to Pittsburgh for a game against the Xplosion at Petersen Events Center. The Krunk were already down to five men, and a first-quarter injury to Miguel Millian meant that Atlanta had no choice but to play five-on-four basketball for the rest of the game. The result was the short end of a 164-119 [7-0] Pittsburgh victory. Terrance Hunter finished with a franchise-high 46 points; he and Larry Williams scored 12 rebounds apiece. Larry Williams and Bilel Simmons each had 23 points in the Krunk loss. The Krunk returned to Morris Brown College for their matchup with the Albany Patroons, only to get completely destroyed 139-111 [6.5-0.5] by the visiting team. Despite the loss, Terrance Hunter had 41 points and 17 rebounds, leading the Krunk in both categories.

Butte Daredevils (14-22, 107.5 QP, 2.97 AVG, 3rd place, National Conference)

Just when things couldn't get any worse for the Butte Daredevils, they had to face the Yakama Sun Kings in the SunDome - without their floor leader, Odell Bradley, who was too ill to take the court. The result was a 120-91 [6-1] loss to the Sun Kings, despite Martane Freeman hitting 30 points and 10 rebounds and 8 assists, combined with Carl Boyd's 25 points and 11 boards. The situation with Odell Bradley turned more serious, as the Daredevils' player-coach spent the night in a local hospital. His teammates, however, took to the court and valiantly fought for quarterpoints against the Sun Kings on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, all they could earn was a half of a quarterpoint, as Yakama took the victory 118-91 [6.5-0.5]. Martane Freeman finished the night with 33 points, as well as seven assists and three steals. Carl Boyd led the team in rebounds, with 11, while Glean Eddy had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. On Thursday night, the Daredevils faced the Sun Kings again, but this time even though the Daredevils lost 110-105 [4-3], they did manage to swipe the last three quarterpoints by outscoring Yakama by one point in each quarter. Returning from his hospital bed, Odell Bradley scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds, while Martane Freeman put up 24 points and pulled down 12 boards. Returning to the Butte Civic Center, the Daredevils faced the Great Falls Explorers for a two-game series. On Saturday night, the Explorers took a win from Butte, 110-103 [5-2], as Lamar Farr scored 37 points in the game. Odell Bradley finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Butte took the Sunday afternoon game 94-86 [6-1], ending their long losing streak. Odell Bradley put up 34 points, while Blake Sholberg pulled down 14 rebounds.

East Kentucky Miners (18-19, 125.5 QP, 3.39 AVG, 4th place, American Conference)

Down 108-105 with 17 seconds to go against Great Falls on Monday night, it was Josh Pace's 3-pointer, a ball that rolled around the cylinder three times before dropping in, that tied the game for the Miners and potentially sent the contest into overtime. But with 0.7 seconds left, Pace fouled Michael Peeples - Peeples made the second of two free throws, causing the Miners to suffer a 109-108 [4.5-2.5] heartbreaker at the East Kentucky Expo Center. Jason McLeish led East Kentucky in scoring. McLeish tossed in a game-high 28 points. Boo Jackson and Josh Pace scored 21 points apiece as part of separate double-double performances. Jackson pulled down a game-high 20 rebounds. Pace grabbed 12 boards for the Miners. The Miners fared better in the Wednesday rematch, finishing strong with a 118-112 [5.5-1.5] win over the Great Falls Explorers. While Josh Pace was the high scorer with 34 points and 8 assists, James "Boo" Jackson had a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds. Next up for the Miners were two home games against division-leader Minot; in the Saturday night matchup, the Miners fell to the Skyrockets 113-108 [5-2], but Josh Pace earned a triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while James "Boo" Jackson earned 24 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Mike Dean added 23 points and 4 steals. Even with a close match Sunday afternoon, the Miners could not surpass the Minot Skyrockets in their return match, falling 106-104 [5.5-1.5] to the division leaders. Jason McLeish had 28 points and 10 assists, leading all Miners in those categories. Josh Pace finished with 22 points, while James "Boo" Jackson picked up 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

With their first game in two weeks, the Explorers battled the East Kentucky Miners in Pikeville. Six Explorers, led by Mike Peeples 23 points, scored in double figures. Junior Burrough followed with 21 and Pele Paelay 20. Marlyn Bryant pitched in 18 points and Nate Green and Maurice Carter had 13 and 10, respectively. The Daredevils, however, came back to defeat Great Falls in the Sunday afternoon matchup, winning 94-86 [6-1]. Again Marlyn Bryant was the top scorer for Great Falls, with 27 points, while Michael Peebles finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds in the game.

Minot Skyrockets (28-9, 179.0 QP, 4.84 AVG, 1st place, American Conference)

Minot hosted the Albany Patroons at the Minot Municipal Auditorium Tuesday night, and although both teams were tied at 90 points apiece in the final minute, it was Marshall Phillips' key steal of an Ashanti Cook turnover that helped Minot move ahead - and eventually win the match 96-92 [5.5-1.5]. Ray Cunningham had another strong night, with 27 points in the game; Sidney Holmes finished with 10 rebounds. Marshall Phillips had 22 points, many of them coming off turnovers - in fact, the Skyrockets beat Albany in the points-off-turnovers category 24 to 8. Next up was a visit from the Pittsburgh Xplosion, and in a game that would eventually drift into overtime, the Skyrockets used a 14-5 overtime run to claim a 108-99 [5-2] triumph over Pittsburgh. Marshall Phillips was one of three Skyrockets with double-doubles, as he finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Ronnie Fields (20 pts, 10 rebs) and Sidney Holmes (12 pts, 11 rebs) also had double-doubles for the Magic City crew. Minot then went on the road to Pittsburgh for a Friday night matchup against the Xplosion, only to come up short 105-100 [6-1], ending the team's winning streak. Rio Grande Valley Silverados (7-31, 79.5 QP, 2.09 AVG, 5th place, National Conference)

After Monday night's 101-88 [6-1] loss to the Oklahoma Cavalry, Rio Grande Valley head coach Derrick Rowland vowed to win Tuesday's return match. "We're gonna come back and win the game," Rowland said to the Monitor newspaper. "I can say that because I feel we could have won tonight. We didn't finish up strong, and they wanted it more than us and they got it and that's the story of us so far." In the Monday night loss, the newly-signed Jason Forte had 24 points for the Silverados, while another new signee, Andre Owens, had 9 rebounds for the Silverados. A return match on Tuesday night did little for the Silverados, as Rio Grande Valley fell to the Cavalry again, 107-91 [6-1]. In the loss, Gordon Klaiber scored 25 points; Klaiber also had nine rebounds and three steals. Andre Owens had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Trent Eager scored 22 points for the McAllen crew. The "border war" continued Thursday night in Lawton, as the Silverados fought a close battle against Oklahoma, only to lose 96-94 [5-2] when a last-second three-pointer by Gordon Klaiber missed its mark. Klaiber finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Demorris "Toby" Smith finished the game with a team-high 21 points. Next up was a two-game visit by the Albany Patroons, a team for whom Derrick Rowland played for many years. In the Saturday night matchup, Rio Grande took the lead and stayed there, with a 97-93 [5.5-1.5] victory over the Patroons. Jason Forte and Demorris "Toby" Smith both scored 22 points for the Silverados, while Trent Eager had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Sunday evening, the Silverados won again - their first-ever two-game winning streak - with a 114-100 [6-1] triumph over Albany. Renaldo Norman led the way with 25 points, while Craig Morton finished with 15 rebounds and 12 points for Rio Grande Valley.

Yakama Sun Kings (31-2, 187.0 QP, 5.67 AVG, 1st place, National Conference)

For the Sun Kings' fifteenth straight victory, the victim was the Butte Daredevils, who lost 120-91 [6-1] to Yakama at the SunDome. Desmond Ferguson led the Sun Kings with 37 points in the victory, including six 3-pointers. Tim Ellis' 10 rebounds were tops for the Sun Kings, while Moochie Norris dished out 12 assists. In Tuesday night's rematch with the Miners, the Sun Kings fell victim to injuries and two technical fouls on Jason Sasser, and by the second half they were down to six healthy shooters. But the Sun Kings won this battle of 6-on-6, 118-98 [6.5-0.5], as Moochie Norris earned a triple-double of 27 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Harvey Thomas finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Tim Ellis earned 16 points, 10 boards and three steals. On Wednesday, the Sun Kings took another victory from Butte, 110-105 [4-3], by winning the first quarter, while Butte took the final three quarters, beating the Sun Kings by one point each quarter. Moochie Norris put together another triple-double of 24 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds, while Jason Sasser notched 23 points and 13 rebounds. Returning to the CBA as an active player was Kipp Christiansen - the Sun Kings assistant coach suited up in an emergency role, and played his first three CBA minutes in six years. The Sun Kings then traveled to Oklahoma on Saturday for a game against the #2 team in the National Conference, the Oklahoma Cavalry. But for the first time this season, Yakama lost a road game, 92-91 [5-2], despite Tim Ellis' 20 points and Desmond Ferguson's 14 rebounds and 19 markers, including four more 3-pointers, leaving "Moneyball" one three-pointer short of tying Carlton McKinney for 5th place on the CBA career 3-pointers list. Moochie Norris was one point shy of his third straight triple-double, getting 9 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
