CBA Awards Franchise to Bellevue, WA

November 18, 2003 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) - Bellevue Nighthawks News Release

(BELLEVUE, WA)—The Continental Basketball Association (CBA) has awarded an expansion franchise to an investment group representing Bellevue, Washington. Puget Sound Sports and Entertainment, LLC (PSSE) is headed by former KONG-TV President and General Manager, Michael Tuckman.

The “Bellevue Nighthawks” will begin play in the 2004-05 CBA season.

CBA Commissioner Gary Hunter will make the official announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, November 18th at Noon at the Bellevue Club, 11200 SE 6th, Bellevue, WA; (425) 454-4424.

PSSE has proposed a $60 million privately-financed sports arena to the City of Bellevue. The arena would be located on a site partially-owned by the City at NE 6th and 112th Ave NE, between the Meydenbauer Convention Center and the new Bellevue City Hall. “Bellevue Civic Center Arena” is a modification of a plan originally submitted to the Bellevue City Council in 2001.

“We promised two things to the City Council in 2001,” said Nighthawks President Tuckman, “First, that we would form the Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame and Museum… and second, that we would bring pro sports to Bellevue. We’ve now delivered on both counts.”

The Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame made former Seattle SuperSonics superstar Gary Payton its charter inductee in 2001, and added Don James, Steve Largent, Ed Pepple, Edo Vanni and the 2001 Seattle Mariners team to its honor roll last year.

Public online voting for the Hall of Fame Class of 2003 is presently underway at www.PugetSoundSports.org.

The Bellevue Nighthawks will play home games at Bellevue Community College. The parties have agreed to a series of leases with option years totaling six (6) seasons.
