Bellevue, WA to Join CBA in 2004-05
Published on November 18, 2003 under Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release
Boise, ID (November 18, 2003) â The Continental Basketball Association announced Tuesday that the Board of Directors has approved Puget Sound Sports and Entertainment, LLC (PSSE) to place a team in Bellevue, Washington. The team, which will be known as the Bellevue Nighthawks, will begin play in November of 2004. Commissioner Gary Hunter made the announcement at a press conference conducted at the Bellevue Club, alongside Nighthawks Team President and General Manager Michael Tuckman.
"We are extremely excited to welcome the Bellevue Nighthawks to the CBA as our new expansion franchise," stated Hunter. "I am very impressed by the local community and think that Bellevue will embrace the team and help make it a success."
Tuckman, a former President and General Manager of KONG-TV in Seattle, leads the investment group of PSSE that has already brought the Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame and Museum to the Puget Sound area. The Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame made former Seattle SuperSonics superstar Gary Payton its charter inductee in 2001, and added Don James, Steve Largent, Ed Pepple, Edo Vanni and the 2001 Seattle Mariners team to its honor roll last year.
"We promised two things to the Bellevue City Council in 2001," said Tuckman. "First, that we would form the Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and second, that we would bring professional sports to Bellevue. We have now delivered on both counts."
The Bellevue Nighthawks will play their home games at Bellevue Community College.
On November 5, an expansion team was also awarded to a group in Muskegon, Michigan to begin play in the 2004-05 season.
