CBA American All-Stars Announced

Boise, ID (January 13, 2004) — The Continental Basketball Association announced today the ten players who have been selected as members of the 2004 American All-Star team. All-Star game participants were voted on by CBA head coaches and team beat writers. The National All-Star team was announced on Monday, January 12.

Idaho Stampede Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak, who was announced Sunday as the American team Head Coach, will lead a team comprised of three Stampede players, four members of the Gary Steelheads, and three players from the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Krystkowiak, and Dakota Wizards Head Coach Dave Joerger, earned head coaching honors by leading their respective teams to the top two quarter-point averages in the league in games played through January 10.

Idaho forward Josh Davis and Gary guard Jemeil Rich joined Yakima Sun Kings center Anthony Miller as unanimous All-Star selections, receiving 13 of a possible 13 votes in the balloting process.

All-Star activities will begin on Monday, January 19, when the National team holds practice from 6 – 7 pm, before the American team goes from 7 – 8 pm. Both practices are open to the public. Then on Tuesday, January 20, the National All-Stars will hold a shoot-around from 10 – 11 am, followed by the American All-Stars from 11 am – 12 pm, at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Later that night, game day festivities will begin at 6 pm with the CBA Long Distance Shootout presented by The Doctors & Dentists of the Yakima Valley Farm Worker's Clinic. Following the shootout, the Banner Bank Slam Dunk Competition will begin at 6:30 pm, before the All-Star Game tips off at 7:30 pm. During the contest, members of the media and NBA scouts will make their selection for All-Star Most Valuable Player honors, to be announced after the game.

ROBERTO BERGERSEN – G, 6-5, 215, Idaho Stampede (Boise State '00): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 14th in the league in scoring (15.9 ppg), 5th in free-throw percentage (.875) and 5th in three-point field goal percentage (.441)...Posted a season-high 31 points in a win over Dakota on December 31...Was a second round (52nd overall) selection of the Atlanta Hawks in the 1999 NBA Draft...Selected in the second round (11th overall) of the 1999 CBA Draft by La Crosse...Was named to the 2000 CBA All-Rookie Team after averaging 7.7 points and 2.0 assists per game during the 1999-2000 season with the Idaho Stampede...Was named to the CBA All-Star team that played three exhibition games in China during the summer of 2000.

DESEAN HADLEY – G, 6-4, 205, Idaho Stampede (Eastern Michigan '01): First All-Star selection...Currently ranks 9th in the league in scoring (17.5 ppg) and third in three-point field goal percentage (.462)...Posted a season-high 28 points against Gary on December 13...Averaged 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game for the Great Lakes Storm during the 2002-03 season...Was named to the 2002 CBA All-Rookie Team after averaging 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Flint Fuze during the 2001-02 season...Was named the National Player of the Year in Division II Junior College in 1998.

IMMANUEL McELROY – G, 6-4, 200, Gary Steelheads (Cincinnati '02): First All-Star selection...Currently leads the league in field goal percentage (.650)...Posted a season-high 29 points in a win over Idaho on December 13...Was named the 2003 CBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the Grand Rapids Hoops...Averaged 17.4 points and 9.0 rebounds in five games played during the 2003 CBA Playoffs...Selected in the fourth round (29th overall) of the 2002 CBA Draft by Grand Rapids...Was named Conference USA's Defensive Player of the Year while playing for the University of Cincinnati.
