Cavalry Wins Three Pacific Conference Trophies
November 8, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Wyoming Cavalry News Release
Casper, WY - Wyoming Cavalry owners and Head Coach, Shannon Moore, attended the NIFL meetings in St. Louis, MO Nov. 2-3.
"The meetings were very productive," says Wyoming Cavalry General Manager, Mike Layton. "We focused on operations and expansion. We made some internal operational changes at the league level that will help transition the NIFL to the next level. As soon as all the paperwork is completed, and all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, we'll have exact expansion team locations for 2006."
In addition to meetings, team owners were treated to a cocktail party, hosted by Riddell, an NHL game at the Savvis Center, hosted by the River City Rage NIFL Team, and the NIFL Awards Banquet. The Wyoming Cavalry brought home trophies in three categories - Pacific Conference Best Stat Crew, Best Mascot, and Most Community Oriented.
"These awards belong to our volunteers and all the supporters of the Wyoming Cavalry," says Layton." Bill Hjelmstad and his crew have been doing stats for us for five years. Hjelmstad trains new people every year so that we always have back-ups. He has created the standard for all other stat crews in the league."
"As to the Community Oriented award, we have only just begun," continues Layton. "With Coach Moore in Casper year round, we have the opportunity to be even more involved. You'll be hearing more in the next few months as we firm up plans with our community partners."
"Thanks to Ken Thoren and Pepsi of Casper for their sponsorship of our mascot, Custer," adds Layton. "We introduced Custer to the community last year, and the fans fell in love with him - especially the younger fans."
