Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats traveled to Topeka this past weekend to take on the Roadrunners in a two-game stand. The Cats played without captain, Adam Cardwell, in the weekend series, due to a two-game suspension handed down to him by the league. That did not stop the Cats though as they went one and one with Topeka and picked up two more points in the standings. The Wildcats still sit in first place in the NAHL South Division with thirty-three points. They have a current record of 16-7-1

Friday night the Wildcats were trailing by one after forty minutes of play, but with determination the Cats were able to bounce back and win the game in regulation. Topeka got on the board first when they scored a powerplay goal less than nine minutes into the game, but the Cats quickly answered back. At the 9:48 mark of the first frame, Adam Sponseller blasted the puck past the Topeka goalie to tie the game at one. The assists on the goal came from Skylur Jameson and Adam Krefski. Topeka scored another powerplay goal before the period ended and the Cats trailed 2-1 going into the first intermission. Midway through the second stanza Topeka capitalized on another powerplay situation and took a two goal lead over the Cats. The Wildcats would not be let down though. With less than two minutes remaining in the second frame, Skylur Jameson scored a powerplay goal of his own to put the Cats within one after forty minutes of play. The assists came from Krefski and Kaneshiro. The third period was all the Wildcats as they capitalized on two scoring opportunities of their own and held Topeka to only four shots on goal. Jeff McNiel scored the tying goal of the game less than two minutes into the final stanza, off the assists from Ondrejac and McKenzie. The game winning goal for the Cats would come off the powerplay at the 14:56 mark. Salazar and Hartung found Morrell, who took advantage of his position and slid the puck between the pipes to win the game 4-3 for the Cats.

Saturday night's game started similar to the previous night with Topeka scoring a powerplay goal early into the game. McKenzie answered back for the Cats at the 13:40 mark of the first frame off the assist from Morrell. McKenzie blasted the puck into the back of the net to tie the game. Unfortunately, Topeka scored one more before the period ended and took a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes of play. The second period remained scoreless by both teams as well as the majority of the third stanza. The Cats were unable to connect with another goal and with just under four minutes to play, Topeka got the breakaway and put one more into the back of the net to seal the deal. The Cats fell short 3-1.

The Wildcats next games are Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the KYC. They will be taking on the St. Louis Bandits. St. Louis leads the North Division with thirty-four points so you can expect the weekend series to be one of high intensity. Puck drops at 7:05pm.
