Rockford Thunder News Release
Dear Thunder Fans:
Here is my 2008 in a nutshell...
On Friday, October 10th, 2008 I married Sam LeCure, my best friend and man of my dreams. Our wedding took place in Austin, Texas with all of our closest family and friends there to celebrate with us! It was, by far, the beat day of my life. We left for St. Lucia the next day to go on our honeymoon! It was the first time for us both to travel to the Caribbean and I bet it won't be the last! We had such an amazing time there. Being able to spend a whole week together without any distractions was great...we went snorkeling, zip-lining, dancing, boating and we went on a tour to see the Volcano!
I got my first job, outside of softball, back in December '07 for an athletic inspired clothing company called 'Lululemon Athletica' in Austin. I worked there for 11 amazing months and working there helped me figure out who I was outside of softball and what I wanted to do/be. They helped me realize how much I needed softball in my life.
So in November, when Sam was told he made the Cincinnati Reds' 40-man roster we both decided it was time to make a few changes. Sam wanted to move to Florida so he could get in a few months of extra training before Spring Training and I had a great job opportunity in Florida working for my brother-in-law's company. Everything seemed to be falling in place, but then I had a curve ball thrown at me. I was approached by the Thunder and they wanted to know if I would come back and play ball this season. Just when I thought I had it all figured out and had, regrettably, put softball in the past, fate stepped in and gave me another chance to do what I love! I had a lot of mixed emotions about playing again, mainly wondering if I could still catch, throw and hit!
After a month of contemplating this decision with Sam and family I knew I had to play! What an amazing opportunity it is to be able to come back and play the game I love and what really got me was that I would be playing with my former college teammate, Cat Osterman!
I am so grateful that the Thunder gave me another chance to get out on the field and compete with the best ball players around! It will be so much fun getting behind the plate for Cat again, we had such a unique relationship and I hope we can do what we did at Texas all over again!
I can't wait to report to Rockford so we can start practicing together and work towards a championship!
Until then!!
Live, Laugh, Love,
Megan LeClure (Willis)
