Rockford Thunder News Release

Right after our last game in August, I had to leave and head to Carbondale. Our game was on Sunday and I started graduate school on Monday... I am in graduate school at Southern Illinois University studying dietetics (nutrition). I am doing research with children who are at-risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes and am also working in the nutrition department as a research assistant and a teaching assistant for a basic nutrition class of 270 students! I have always loved school and my dad teases me about being a lifetime student... starting to sound good at this point!

Over Christmas, I was able to visit my family back in Oklahoma and Texas. My dad lives in Oklahoma and my mom, step-dad and little sister (not so little anymore, 14!) live in Texas. So I split my time with both parents. We love Christmas in my family, both my parents go above and beyond, but I'm not complaining!

It is so cold here in Carbondale; I am ready for summer to get here and ball to begin. I have finally started to train for the upcoming season. I know my body and feel that I do better when I give myself a rest and then hit it hard when season gets closer. I am running and riding the elliptical, and hopefully soon to be pitching batting practice to the SIU softball team. It would be great for me to pitch live to batters. Throwing to a catcher just gets a little monotonous at times.

I can't wait for season; I think we have made some great additions that will add so much to our team. I am looking forward to our first practice, it's like having a family reunion and I miss everyone so much! Hope this gives you a little insight to my life now... can't wait to be back in Rockford, see y'all at the games! Nah-Na Na Na Na Na... Thunder!

Always,

Cassidy Scoggins, Pitcher, #6
