PULASKI, VA - On Saturday June 25th, 2011 the Pulaski Mariners, the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, and LewisGale Hospital - Pulaski will be hosting the "Catch the World of Sports" Festival, an all-day event of food, performances, concerts and baseball at historic Calfee Park.
The Festival will take place in the afternoon from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The three-hour Festival will be open to spotlight groups and vendors from all around the New River Valley. Booths will be set up throughout the park where attendees can taste international foods, see various cultural demonstrations, learn about different sports from around the world, participate in kids activities, and meet international players from the Pulaski Mariners.
After the Festival, attendees are invited to stay for a 6:00 pm Appalachian League matchup between the Pulaski Mariners and the Princeton Rays. Both are Advanced Rookie League teams of the Seattle Mariners and the Tampa Bay Rays. To learn more about the Pulaski Mariners and their 2011 schedule, see their website at www.pulaskimariners.net.
But the entertainment doesn't stop there. After the baseball game, the North Carolina-based band The Embers will be performing a concert at the ballpark from 9:00 pm until midnight. The Embers have been performing a genre known as "beach music" for decades. Their music artfully combines rhythm and blues with heart and soul, which has made them one of the most popular and active groups in the country. Anyone attending the Festival and arriving before 4:30 pm will be admitted at no charge. Those who stay inside the park may stay for the game and concert without charge. Those arriving after 4:30 pm will pay regular ticket prices for the game and concert. (General Admission $4.00, $3.00 over 55; Reserved seating $6.00, $5.00 over 55)
