Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
The Cane Cutters' six-game home stand continued on Thursday night when the Brazos Valley Bombers dropped in for their first game at Fabacher since the middle of July. Both teams entered tonight's play in a deadlock for first place in the second half of the Texas Collegiate League standings, each vying to tune up and gain some momentum going into the postseason play.
On the bump tonight for the Cane Cutters was LSU-Eunice product Paul Carpenter making his debut start of the season. Carpenter, who typically works from the bullpen, was called to slow down the tough Bomber offense. Jordie Hein gave Acadiana the early lead in the second inning by bringing around two runs with his double to left. The Bombers quickly answered by scoring four more runs, thanks in part to a three run long ball over the left field scoreboard. An inning later the Cane Cutters put together a rally of their own pushing across four after an RBI walk by Nathan Pugh and an RBI single from LSU outfielder Chris Sciambra. The other two runs came off of Bomber miscues.
Acadiana started off the 7th with base knocks from Hein and Sciambra and then added to their lead after a sac fly from second baseman Nick Dawson and a wild pitch that allowed Sciambra to cross. Those runs would be all the insurance that relief pitcher Taylor Nunez would need, going three innings allowing only one hit and fanning 4 Bombers to secure the Cane Cutters the 9-5 victory. Carpenter would earn the win and Nunez the save.
The action continues tomorrow at ballpark as the nationally touted Bombers take on the Cane Cutters in game two of the series. Tomorrow night is also Acadiana Superheroes Night at Fabacher Field!
