Carolina Diamonds Hope to Keep Momentum Going

July 26, 2012 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - Carolina Diamonds News Release

SALISBURY - The Carolina Diamonds hope to keep up their momentum this weekend in Ohio against the Akron Racers after handing ace pitcher Monica Abbott of the Chicago Bandits her first loss of the National Pro Fastpitch softball league season on Sunday.

The Diamonds have climbed to third place and catcher Rachel Folden now leads the NPF with a .409 batting average and is tied for most home runs (7) and RBIs (20).

Akron and Carolina's series begins Friday night after a rain out Thursday. Having two road trips in a row is tiring for the team but the moral is good and the players are ready. Being away from a home crowd can be hard but the Diamonds were met with supporters in Chicago last weekend out to cheer on Folden, who played for the Bandit's last year and lives in Indiana.

"It's exciting. We don't have the long lines of people wanting autographs like the other teams do, but we had a good crowd," head coach Lisa Navas said pf the away support. "The kids have got good personalities, they like to have fun. And they know that when we ask them to play ball that that's what they are there to do. I am proud of them stepping up every day."

Not only are the players ready, but they have all been asked to do different things with several members being absent for various reasons. Most notably of these examples was rookie pitcher Angel Bunner's eleven inning complete game victory over Monica Abbott, Amanda Kamekona moving from the infield to left field and Jami Lobpries filling for Caitlin Lever in center field.

"That's all we can ask," Navas said.
