Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport-Bossier Captains have named Chet Carey as their new general manager, the club announced Monday. Carey replaces Craig Brasfield, who remains as a club vice president, but is stepping aside to take on the vice president/general manager role with the ownership group's newly acquired Grand Prairie AirHogs.
Carey is beginning his 17th year in professional baseball, and has been the assistant general manager with the Captains the last two seasons, helping to lead them to the 2010 American Association championship.
"While I will not be in Shreveport day-to-day, I remain committed to making Captains baseball and Fair Grounds Field the destination for affordable family entertainment in the Shreveport-Bossier area," Brasfield said.
Previously, Carey was the general manager of the Alexandria (La.) Aces from 2006-'08, his second stint with that club, having also served as general manager during the 2002 season and assistant general manger from 1999-2001. He also served as assistant general manager with the Jackson (Miss.) Senators (2003-'05) and started his professional career with the Quad City (Iowa) River Bandits as director of game day operations.
"In my 15 years working with Chet I've come to know what a hard worker and great baseball guy he is," Brasfield said. "I know he's the right man for this job and I'm sure he will continue the great strides we have made in the last two seasons."
"I'm really excited to keep up the great work that we've accomplished here," Carey said. "I know we can build on our championship season and continue to make the Captains a big part of the community."
A Geneseo, Ill., native, Carey graduated from Western Illinois University and played as a member of the WIU Leatherneck baseball team.
The 2010 American Association Champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains begin the defense of their title on Wednesday, May 11, against the Lincoln Saltdogs, at 10:05 a.m. For information on 2011 tickets, promotions, advertising, and other opportunities with the Captains, check out the Web site as well, or call the Fair Grounds Field office at (318) 636-5555.
