Lincoln Capitols News Release

The Lincoln Capitols improved to 7-3 on the season and remained unbeaten at home Friday night by downing the LaCrosse Night Train 44-20. Running back Rayshawn Askew paced the Capitols, scoring 4 touchdowns, and the Lincoln defense held the visitors scoreless in the third quarter, forcing a pair of turnovers.

Askew finished with 17 carries for 75 yards and 3 touchdowns, but it was a reception by the rookie that opened the scoring. Askew caught a 34-yard toss from quarterback Josh Luedtke following a Heath Staples interception, and the Capitols never trailed.

Luedkte finished another game throwing for over 50-percent, completing 14 passes on 26 attempts for 167 yards, a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. His favorite target on the night was Zach Sangster who caught 5 passes for 57 yards, but left in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury.

On the night, Lincoln forced three LaCrosse turnovers and limited the Night Train to only 30 yards of offense in the third period. That was enough to allow the Lincoln offense to expand on a 21-12 halftime lead.

LaCrosse quarterback Marrial Shields led the Night Train with 51 yards rushing and completed 11 passes on 25 attempts for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead the LaCrosse attack.

With the win, the Capitols improve to 5-1 in the NIFL's Pacific North division and a perfect 4-0 at home. Lincoln plays its final regular season road game next Saturday night when it visits Kearney to face the Tri-City Diesel in a 7:35 PM contest.
