
Capitols outlast Wyoming

Lincoln Capitols' quarterback Josh Luedtke found Zach Sangster a yard deep in the end zone on fourth and goal with 29.6 seconds to play Saturday night, and the Capitols held on for a 66-63 decision over the Wyoming Cavalry. Wyoming kicker Trey Ransom missed a 36-yard field goal attempt as time expired as the Capitols improved to 5-3 and escaped with their first road win since opening the season with a victory at LaCrosse.
Luedtke threw for 270 yards and six touchdowns on 26-of-38 for the night, with one interception. Sangster's TD catch was his only score of the night, but he and Damon Benning led the Capitols with 10 receptions apiece. Benning finished with 10 catches for 85 yards and Sangster had 10 grabs for 77 yards.
Tyrone Tyler caught three passes, all for scores, and 67 yards. Rayshawn Askew scored two receiving touchdowns and made three catches on the night for 41 yards. Benning finished with two rushing touchdowns, and Askew one on the ground.
Wyoming led the bulk of the first half and by as much as 11 points early, opening a 14-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Lincoln closed to within four at halftime and then took the opening possession of the second half for a score to take its first lead of the night at 31-28.
The two teams traded touchdowns the remainder of the night, with the Capitols getting the last strike, and then holding the Cavalry out of the end zone in the final moments to take the win.
Now five-and-three, the Capitols travel to Sioux City next Saturday night for a 7:05 contest. Wyoming falls to one-and-eight.
