Capitols' Luedtke and Long earn Pacific Conference honors

Lincoln Capitols’ quarterback Josh Luedtke and kicker Chace Long have been named the offensive and special teams players of the week respectively in the NIFL’s Pacific Conference after leading the Capitols to a 72-70 win over Conference leading Bismarck last Friday night.

Luedkte matched his season-best with six touchdown throws on a night that saw him complete 21-of-30 passes for 213 yards. The three-year indoor veteran out of Nebraska-Omaha has completed over 60-percent of this throws this season (193-of-321) for 1,898 yards, the third best yardage total among the league’s quarterbacks. He has thrown 39 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions in starting every game this season for the Capitols. Luedtke’s passer rating of 104.3 ranks 7th among NIFL quarterbacks who have played in seven or more games.

Long has established himself as the NIFL’s premier kicker, leading the league in FG accuracy and in scoring by a kicker. The Nebraska alum hit field goals of 50, 21 and the game-winner of 34 yards against Bismarck. He has converted on 30- of-49 field goal chances this season (61.2%) and on 59-of-65 PATs (90.7%). Long’s 50-yarder in the first half against the Roughriders Friday marked the third time this season in nine tries that he has nailed a field goal of 50 or more yards, including a league-best 60-yarder against Omaha on April 20th. Long ranks third in the league in overall scoring having tallied 153 points for the Pacific North division-leading Capitols.

Now 8-4 on the season, the Capitols are off this week before closing out the regular season with a pair of home games. Lincoln will host the RiverCity Renegades Saturday, June 29th, at 7:35PM and then closes out the season against the Tri-City Diesel on Friday, July 5th, also at 7:35PM.
