Cape Fear Fire Antz move into second place

The Cape Fear Fire Antz, winners of two in a row and six of their last ten, have moved into second place in the SEHL by percentage points over the Winston-Salem T-Birds. The first place Huntsville Channel Cats posted another perfect week going 2-0 while third place Knoxville split the week at 1-1. The struggling Winston-Salem T-Birds went 0-3 for the week.

Winston-Salem, looking to turn things around, has replaced Mike LaZazzera as head coach with long-time Winston-Salem player Randy Irving. Irving played nine years in Winston-Salem and was a part of the original Thunderbirds franchise which won 5 regular season championships and 4 playoff championships while Irving was an active player. At the time of the change, the T-Birds had posted a record of only 2 wins and 15 losses since January 1st.

SEHL Player of the Week

The Cape Fear Fire Antz Ryan Kiley is the South East Hockey League Player of the Week. Kiley, a Reading, Massachusetts native, scored five goals and added two assists last week in three games. In the Fire Antz game on Saturday (7th), Kiley scored a hat trick in the Antz 3-2 overtime thriller. In 15 SEHL games this season, he has tallied 14 goals and 8 assists for 22 points. Among his goals scored are 3 short handers and 3 game winners.

SEHL Goaltender of the Week

The Huntsville Channel Cats Matt Carmichael is the South East Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Last week, he went 2-0, stopping 70 of the 76 shots on goal that he faced. The Bristol, Quebec native leads all SEHL “twine tenders” in wins (23), minutes played (1876), saves (1021), shootout wins (3),and he’s tied for the league lead in shutouts with 2. On the season, Carmichael is 23-9 with a 2.81 goals against average and a 92.1% save percentage.

Other SEHL Top Performers

Huntsville’s James Patterson leads the SEHL in points (85) and assists (57).

Huntsville’s Allan Carr leads the SEHL in goals (36). He also leads the league in game winning goals (8) and plus/minus with a +26 rating.

Aaron Shrieves of the Cape Fear Fire Antz leads the league in penalty minutes with 228.

Knoxville’s K.J. Voorhees scored two goals and added an assist in two games last week. He now has 31 goals on the year.

Chris Seifert of the Winston-Salem T-Birds tallied two goals and three assists in three games. He leads the T-Birds in scoring with 19 goals-21 assists-40 points.

Upcoming Team Promotions

Thursday, February 12th: The Knoxville Ice Bears present “Knox County Schools Night”. All Knox County Schools that participate are eligible to win an ice skating party with the Ice Bears.

Friday, February 13th: The Winston-Salem T-Birds present “Ladies Night”. The first 500 ladies in attendance receive flowers. Also, chocolate gift sets, floral arrangements, and massages will be given away.

Friday, February 13th: The Huntsville Channel Cats present “Frisbee Night” sponsored by Rocket 95.1 FM Radio. The first 1200 fans will receive a free Frisbee.

Saturday, February 14th: The Knoxville Ice Bears present “Valentines Day”. The Ice Bears will be wearing special Valentines Day jerseys which will be auctioned off following the game. All ladies will be admitted for only $5.00.

Saturday, February 14th: The Cape Fear Fire Antz present “Operation Sellout II”. The special night will feature an appearance by WWE wrestling personality Sgt. Slaughter and the Fire Antz will be wearing special Valentines Day jerseys which will be auctioned off following the game.

Monday, February 16th: The Huntsville Channel Cats special “Nashville Predators Promotion”.

Anyone purchasing a ticket to the Sunday, February 15th Nashville vs. Edmonton game will receive a free ticket to the Monday Channel Cats game vs. Knoxville. Game time is 6:05PM.

Huntsville Game Date Change:

Please note that the Huntsville Channel Cats are moving their game originally scheduled for Thursday, March 18 back one day to Wednesday, March 17th. It will be a special St. Patrick’s Day promotion with the Channel Cats wearing special St. Patrick’s Day jerseys and the first 2000 fans will receive a set of Channel Cats trading cards.
