Canucks re-sign defenceman Kevin Bieksa

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed defenceman Kevin Bieksa. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bieksa, 25, played 39 games in his rookie season with Vancouver, recording six assists and 77 penalty minutes. After being recalled from the Manitoba Moose on December 19, 2005, Bieksa logged an average time on ice of 16:06 per game. Bieksa also played 23 regular season games with Manitoba in the 2005-06 regular season scoring three goals, 17 assists (3-17-20) and logging 71 penalty minutes. In 13 post season games with the Moose, Bieksa notched 10 assists and 38 penalty minutes.

During the 2004-05 season, the 6-foot-1, 185 lbs., native of Grimsby, Ontario, set career highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes with the Manitoba Moose. In 80 games played, Bieksa recorded 12 goals, 27 assists, 39 points (12-27-39) and 192 penalty minutes.

Bieksa was selected by the Canucks in the 5th round, 151st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
