Cannons Look for Third Straight Win

BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - The Boston Cannons (3-3) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), coming off a huge 19-9 victory over the Washington Bayhawks on June 19, will look for their third consecutive win as they take on the Toronto Nationals (4-2) at Harvard Stadium on Thursday, June 25 at 7:00 PM.

CANNONS VS. TORONTO IN 2009: Thursday night's game will mark the first time the Cannons face the inaugural-year Toronto Nationals, formerly known as the Rochester Rattlers. The Cannons and Rattlers squared off 16 times in league history, with the Rattlers and their nine wins getting the best of the all-time series.

CANNONS' LAST GAME (JUNE 19 AT WASHINGTON): The Cannons earned their second consecutive win as they dominated the Washington Bayhawks by a score of 19-9 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland on June 19. During the second and third quarters, the Cannons went on a huge run with nine unanswered goals, sealing the victory. Midfielder Paul Rabil led the Cannons with nine points, including two goals, a pair of two-point goals and three assists, to earn the Bud Light MVP award in the game. Both of the Cannons goalies had an impressive night as well, as goalie Mike Levin made 16 saves on the 22 shots he faced during the first three quarters to earn his third win of the season, and goalie Kip Turner stopped nine of the 11 shots he faced during the fourth quarter.

TORONTO'S LAST GAME (JUNE 20 AT DENVER): The Toronto Nationals fell 15-8 to the Denver Outlaws at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver, CO on June 20. The Nationals were unable to rally off a fourth quarter spark and dropped from first place in the MLL standings for the first time this season. Toronto is now tied with the Long Island Lizards for second place. Attackman Merrick Thomson extended his lead as top goal scorer for the Toronto Nationals adding three to the night's decision. Toronto's rookie goalie Doc Schneider started the game in net for the Nationals turning away 13 of Denver's 24 shots. Goalie Brett Queener played the second half for Toronto allowing only four goals on 11 attempts.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Midfielder Paul Rabil established a new career-high with nine points against the Washington Bayhawks on June 19, earning the Bud Light MVP of the game and the MLL Offensive Player of the Week...Attackman Brandon Corp was named as the MLL's Rookie of the Week...Goalie Mike Levin is ranked as the second-best goalie in the league with a 11.16 goals-against average heading into the weekend...Midfielder Greg Downing collected four goals against the Bayhawks on June 19, marking the second consecutive game that he's netted three or more goals...Each of the Cannons' three losses this season have been decided by just one goal.
