Boston Cannons News Release
BOSTON, MA - April 30, 2012 - Boston Cannons goalie Jordan Burke was named the first Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week of 2012 following a 17-save performance Saturday night in the team's 15-3 win over the Rochester Rattlers. The 2011 MLL Championship Weekend MVP, Burke picked up where he left off as he led the Cannons defense in holding the Rattlers to just three goals, a new MLL record (the previous low was five goals allowed).
Though the Rattlers scored two goals in the first 58 seconds of play, the Cannons held Rochester to just one more goal - when the Cannons were a man down due to a penalty - in the following 59 minutes of play, including two scoreless quarters.
"It was such a great defensive effort, from the midfield down to our close guys," Burke said. "We really executed the game plan well. We made two mistakes to start the game and then had one rebound goal, but other than that it was pretty much flawless."
This is Burke's fourth time earning Defensive Player of the Week, winning it three times last season during which he made 166 saves and led the League with a .615 save percentage.
The Cannons continue their early season home stand next Saturday, May 5 as they take on the expansion Charlotte Hounds at 7pm. More information and tickets are available at BostonCannons.com.
