Cannons Drop Heartbreaker in OT

Hempstead, NY (August 1, 2015) -After a stellar comeback effort from Boston, Matt Gibson scored 2:46 into overtime to send the New York Lizards to the 2015 MLL Championship Game.The overtime goal lifted the Lizards over the Cannons by a final score of 16-15 at Hofstra University Saturday night.

Boston got off to a fast start, with three unanswered goals from Ryan Tucker, Brent Adams and Kevin Buchanan. The Lizards were unable to find the back of the net in the first quarter.

The Cannons continued to hold their lead in the first half, but New York stayed persistent as they slowly turned a four-point deficit into a 7-6 lead heading in to halftime.

The third quarter boasted a spark for New York as they scored back-to-back goals out of the gate. Before long, New York extended their lead to four.

The Cannons were only able to get on the board once in the third quarter, a goal by Josh Hawkins, but it kept their momentum alive.

Boston then went on to outscore New York 3-1 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, including a 2-point goal from Max Seibald. The comeback continued thanks to goals from Buchanan, Hawkins, and another 2-pointer from Seibald. John Glesener tied the game at 15 with 36 seconds to go to force overtime.

The Cannons were not able to convert their chances in overtime, and Gibson, 2:46 into play, scored the winner for New York.

The Cannons kept New York's goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Adams made 20 saves on 33 shots. The Cannons had an all around team effort as John Glesener, Ryan Tucker, Kevin Buchanan, Josh Hawkins and Max Seibald all scored two goals, while Owen Blye, Will Manny, and Brent Adams each had one. Other players who recorded assists for Boston were David Emala, Scott Ratliff, Wells Stanwick and Joe Nardella, who each chipped in one. Joe Nardella won 14 faceoffs on the night.
